Football Kits

Football kits, since their evolution, have evolved dramatically. What was once considered simply a uniform to distinguish the teams apart has now become a significant identifier of any football team. It is often easy to tell what team is playing based on the colours of their strip. There will be an identifiable badge or logo with a slogan, which will represent the team and its motto. Sponsors for the strip and the club will also be advertised on the kit. Players will have their surnames or nicknames across the back of their shirt along with the number they have been assigned for that season below it. It is typical for a football club to have different kits for both home games and away games.

The standard requirements of a football kit will comprise of the basic kit; the t-shirt, shorts, shin-pads, socks and football boots. The goalkeeper will be required to wear gloves and often undergarments as standard attire.

Advances in technology have meant that the quality of the kit has been able to be enhanced significantly. It was the case that the kit would be simply cotton t-shirts with heavy football boots. Research has seen the introduction of various types of fabrics and materials that allow the player to ‘breath’ and keep hydrated throughout the duration of the game. The fit of the t-shirts and shorts has also been designed to reduce its interaction with other players that may otherwise result in a foul. This may be such as pull-backs, with the t-shirt being fitted closer to the body, it will be more difficult for another player to get a hold of it. Football boots have also become lighter, making them easier to play in. Replica kits are very popular with avid fans and followers of the game and their teams.
